Foundations Business Unit

Sattva has ongoing work with several leading Global, Regional, Domestic Foundations and Multilateral organizations to create evidence and curate dialogue for policy action. Sattva’s Advisory practice enables foundations to amplify their influence and impact through ecosystem engagement and policy research and advisory. We build strategic influence backed by data and research, enhance portfolio performance for funders, engage ecosystem through convenings, knowledge creation and dissemination, facilitate collaboration between funders, implementation organizations, and facilitate policy research, advisory and policy engagement and communication with Central, State and District Governments. 

Sattva has experience in a range of ecosystem and policy advisory work - thematic and landscape studies, narrative building, policy analysis and briefs, government engagement and facilitating partnerships— supported by leading foundations. Sattva has created strategic partnerships and influence by building data and evidence backed advisory, key stakeholder relationships in education, gender equality, healthcare, water and sanitation, and financial inclusion.


The Opportunity


Key responsibilities


At Sattva we believe in outcome-orientation in everything we do. The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Problem Solving: 

    • Contribute deep strategic and sector specific expertise to the team's problem-solving.

    • Lead structured hypotheses-based, rigorous problem solving with the team in all engagements.

    • Bring in sectoral and stakeholder depth to ensure relevant and actionable solutions are arrived at.

    • Contribute to analysis and synthesis of findings to insights as relevant

    • Be comfortable with dynamic changes in scope of work as the majority of the work is with the central government. 

    • Identify and manage risks for all three kind of partners- Government, International funder and implementation agencies as well as different work streams


  • Delivery Excellence:

    • Take accountability/ownership to achieve successful outcomes for the client, project and social impact that is envisioned for the project through scoping, design and execution in stipulated time frame

    • Ensure continuous improvement in delivery excellence for the business unit by putting in place relevant systems and processes for medium to large-sized projects 

    • Mentor direct team (consultants, senior consultants and engagement managers) in ensuring delivery excellence for their projects 

    • Ensure creation and adoption of high quality assets, methods and standards created during delivery


  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Establish credibility through active relationship building and co-creating solutions with the senior management of the Government agency, International funder and partners onboarded during the project  and key stakeholders engaged with through high levels of sector and functional knowledge, impactful communication and great performance on deliverables 

    • Influence decision-making and action to enable positive and sustainable impact in the stakeholder ecosystem 

    • Ensure high degree of client, people and impact centricity through effective stakeholder management in multi-stakeholder environments.


  • People leadership:

    • Ensure building and growth of teams through guidance, mentoring and enabling a supportive work environment

    • Build capability in the team on an ongoing basis and support direct reports on their career growth and development 

    • Create an enabling environment for the team and embedding of culture with growth

  • Establishing Expertise & Business Leadership:

    • Spot and utilize opportunities for growing the accounts you are managing; also leverage your experience and expertise to follow through on and close new potential deals with the government.

    • Contribute to growing revenues through increasing share of work in current accounts, contribution towards opening new accounts through targeted bids

    • Contribute to Foundation Unit’s share of voice building through articles, client communication, and events.

    • Participate in building and strengthening internal systems and processes which contribute towards effective and efficient functioning of the business unit 

    • Represent Sattva in front of all senior government officials in all meetings and events and play an active role in launch of digital products


  • Oversee project commercials, invoicing, partner payments, contracting, etc.

    • Ensure partner contracting either through Government agency or Sattva as per needs of project

    • Track payments to partners as per contracts to enable smooth continuity of projects. Manage communications in case of deviations in timelines or deliverables.

    • Ensure timely raising of invoices to International funder and track payments to Sattva



Key qualifications and experience


We are looking for individuals who align with our mission of alleviating poverty in our lifetime and have:


  • 15-19 years of work experience in leading government consulting and advisory engagements 

  • Strong experience in handling senior government officials. Preferable if you already come with a strong network in central and state governments.

  • Masters degree in research/development/public policy/ business or development management

  • Experience in consulting, problem solving, managing teams, creating knowledge products, ecosystem engagement and policy

  • Strong business development skills with deep experience and interest to engage in sales calls, developing and owning proposals, pitch decks and pricing

  • Knowledge of the development landscape in India and around the world, including an in-depth understanding of the roles of various stakeholders (government, academia, international institutions, foundations, non-profit and corporate organizations).

  • Expertise in designing and implementing advisory projects, data analysis, synthesizing evidence and building narratives to further policy engagement 

  • Proven leadership in a high paced multi stakeholder client-facing impact organization with deep thematic expertise in Health or Livelihood/Skilling or Education.

  • Experience in leading workshops, facilitating participatory knowledge creation

  • Published written or visual development work in any form or manner 

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills (in English) with exceptional attention to detail

  • Appreciation for the need of business sustainability in the impact journey of Sattva

  • Ability to work in an agile and adaptive, entrepreneurial environment

  • Humility, willingness to listen, learn and adapt

  • Willingness to travel
